LDS Question 8:  Why are we here?

If you are sincerely interested in the truth, then have a prayer before you read any of my writings in answers to these questions . . . ask your Heavenly Father to let you know if what you are reading is true; because only God knows all truth. And, should you feel that it is . . . then, welcome to our family, we believe that we're all brothers and sisters from our first parents Adam & Eve.

ANSWER:

I mentioned in the last question’s answer . . . in the pre-existence before our birth, we lived with our Heavenly Family. We had our Heavenly Parents---yes parents---both a Heavenly Father AND a Heavenly Mother who both possessed bodies of flesh and bones . . . but we were children of Spirit form. Our Spirit bodies were just like our bodies now in appearance (with arms, legs, hands, feet, etc.) but only in a Spiritual essence. We learned much and grew and experienced our life there for eons of time, until, we as children-of-Spirit, were ready to come to earth to be born to a body of our own . . . of flesh and bones and blood (blood because of a Telestial state of life, or meaning that we will all die someday). Each of us needed to learn how to become like our Heavenly parents in character and righteousness and personal development through our inner powers of “choice” and "free agency." Our Parents were of the highest integrity and honesty and uprightness and righteousness . . . we had to learn to become like them in every way.

A Great Council was had amongst our Heavenly Family and the “Plan of Salvation” was addressed. Lucifer, our Spiritual brother, came up with the plan that we would go forth to be born upon the earth and he would take away our free agency, and make us all be able to return to our Heavenly Father and Mother . . . with no consequence . . . but HE wanted ALL the glory and throne of our Heavenly Father. Whereas, our then-Spirit-Brother Jesus stood up and said that he would go forth and take upon Him all of our sins through an atonement he would make personally . . . so that we all could have free agency, and choose for ourselves what we would do; but, that we could repent for our mistakes and he would bear their consequence . . . IF we lived the Gospel. So, the Father chose His Son Jesus’s plan. And, Lucifer became very angry, and through his cunning words and flatterings and persuasiveness, he convinced 1/3 of our brothers and sisters to follow him against the plan of our Father. So he—Satan, Lucifer, the Adversary, the Devil, the Son of the Morning—was cast out of heaven with all those that followed him.

This earth (though there are numerous earths like ours) was then created and prepared for human habitation; and the rest of us---who supported our Lord’s plan---then, needed to be born. We each came to earth through earthly parents of flesh and blood and bones. We had a vale placed upon our minds so that we would no longer remember our pre-existent state . . . because we were hear to prove ourselves; to see what we would choose. . . the ways of our Heavenly Parents or the ways of the Adversary. So, after our birth, we grew and we needed to be taught and nurtured as children . . . and thereafter, as we grew and experienced life, we had to be tested and tried, with opposition and many trials, to see what we would choose to do to create our path through life.

So, “Why are we here?” We are here first of all, to receive a body of flesh and bones, like our Heavenly Parents possess; second of all, we are here with a special mission to fulfill in this life, in His name . . . a mission that is between you and your Heavenly Father that is just for you alone to accomplish . . . a special mission that if we inquire of our Father, He will reveal it unto us . . . like the dews of heaven fall from the skies, drop by drop . . . He will reveal it unto us one precept at a time . . . precept upon precept, line upon line. Thirdly, we are here to prove ourselves to our Heavenly Parents and show them that we can keep the commandments and be obedient, strong, wise, humble, enduring, honest, true, chaste, benevolent and faithful . . . and endure in these qualities to the end of our lives. You see?! We cannot become like our Heavenly Parents . . . if we don’t live like them here and now, in this test of life. THAT is why we are here!!
